The University of Medical Sciences of Holguin held this September 23 its third massive graduation ceremony, thus closing the 2020-2021 course, in this regard Dr. Marylú Torres Batista, also Academic Vice Rector of this High Education Institution, said: "The graduates of this course (2020-2021) are part of the forty-fourth graduation of the Carlos J. Finlay detachment".
"Due to the current epidemiological situation, the graduation events have been organized in small groups in each municipality of Holguín, for a total of 19 events".
On this occasion, each of the 14 municipalities in the province has the opportunity to hold the graduation ceremonies and recognize their own health professionals and technicians.
"The University of Medical Sciences of Holguin on this occasion graduates a thousand 336 new professionals and technicians of medical sciences, among them 25 new doctors from other countries," said Dr. Torres Batista.
A total of 897 students graduated from the regular daytime courses and 65 from the courses by meeting courses, 109 of them from the professional technical education and for the first time 265 Short Cycle Higher Technicians graduated.
Quality marks this graduation, where 197 obtained a Gold Degree, 82 are part of the Mario Muñoz Monroy Vanguard Movement (which groups the most integral students), and the 22 that the Rector, Dr. Galina Galcerán Chacón, awarded with the Scientific Merit Award, highlighted Torres Batista.
She also emphasized that as part of the health system, today's graduates have been permanently involved in the anti-vectorial fight, aimed at the eradication of arbovirosis, and in the last two years, a titanic task, the fight against Covid-19, said the Academic Vice-Chancellor of this Medical University.
The Doctor of Medicine added that at various times during their training, the students participated in different activities, from community research to red zones, vaccination, among other health care activities, both in Primary and Secondary Health Care.
It should be noted that once the state exam period was over, and without enjoying their well-deserved vacations, the students who are graduating today responded to the call to become professionals, said the experienced specialist.
She added that some of them are currently part of the "Ponle Corazón Health Contingent", which is taking medical attention to Holguin's communities, and have earned high recognition from the people thanks to their unlimited dedication.
Likewise, 260 students who opted for the vertical internship modality are graduating today, -the highest number so far-, thus giving an answer to the post-graduate training in 25 medical specialties lacking in the province, concluded Dr. Marylú Torres Batista, also Academic Vice-Rector of the University of Medical Sciences of Holguín.
