This September 20, the situation of the Agricultural System of Holguin province was debated in a video conference, under the presidency of Governor Julio Cesar Estupiñan Rodriguez, and the presence of Ernesto Santiesteban Velazquez, First Secretary of the Provincial Party.
In the analysis of the indications it is heard that of the 30 rustic houses to be built, 28 will have financing with the support of the 1% budget of each municipality; and that a producer of Mayarí made his monetary contribution, aspect that the First Secretary highlights as positive and asks for it to be greater among those of greater incomes.
Given the persistent drought, it is imperative for the Agriculture System of Holguín province to increase its water reserves, and that is why the possible construction of the Pilón dam was analyzed.
In this first part of the videoconference it is emphasized that for diverse reasons there is unawareness about the measures adopted with the goal of favoring the increase of the agro-livestock production.
In this regard, the municipal authorities are asked to go deeper into the topic, and to direct all efforts to each producer, even if they are still misinformed.
The non-compliances such as the non-payments to producers due to covid-19 affectations in some banks and other causes are also discussed, on which more action is demanded.
The prices of agricultural products after their liberalization were discussed.
In this regard, Rigoberto Rivero Durán, the coordinator of agri-food programs in the Provincial Government, reasoned that market administrators should check the compliance of prices so that they are not abusive, that there is a balance between quality and money to be paid, and also that priority products such as squash, banana, yucca and sweet potatoes are observed.
In this regard, Juan Domínguez Pérez, who is in charge of the sector for the Provincial Party, said that there is price liberalization of some products, but that others are maintained which contribute to the substitution of imports, but that this idea has had bad interpretations, for this reason, he emphasized, it must be controlled.
For his part, Santiesteban Velázquez asked for a rigorous evaluation of the fulfillment of the prices, and recalled the social commitment which includes medical diets, but that in order to comply with this humanitarian gesture, it is necessary to go deeper and that in this, contracting has a cardinal importance.
In the review of each municipality, explanations were demanded, as in the case of Báguanos for its poor meat and milk supply, an issue that also concerns Cacocum and Calixto García.
The municipality of Holguín is asked to think about increasing its self-consumption in order to gradually free itself from dependence on shipments from other territories.
In this sense, the Governor instructed them to review the territorial organization, because it happens that there are lands designated for cattle, for example, and no animal is raised, nor any plant is grown.
In addition, there are 463 empty flower beds, thus affecting the production of vegetables, not only in the capital city but also in the rest of the province, on which urban agriculture must respond.
Regarding the evaluation made by Agriculture of the municipalities, Santiesteban Velázquez disagreed, because in the videoconference of September 20, it was observed that there are many dissatisfactions, that is why he considered that, rather than 10 territories in progress, they are stagnant, and that those included in the latter category should be considered bad, among them, Urbano Noris, Antilla, Gibara, Báguanos and Banes.
