Health authorities from the province of Holguin informed that the Soberana 02 vaccination campaign, to begin this week for children from two to 18 years old, has been postponed, pending on the arrival of this product from the Finlay Institute of Vaccines.
Doctor Yanetsi Pérez González, from the team in charge of the anti-COVID-19 vaccination campaign in the province, informed that the immunization with Soberana 02 and Soberana Plus, whose scheme foresees two doses of the first one and one of the second one (0, 28 and 56 days), is scheduled for ages two to 11 years old and 12 to 18 years old and is postponed until the necessary quantities of the product are delivered to the Company of Commercialization and Distribution of Medicines (Emcomed) and its subsequent distribution through the vaccination sites set up in the 14 municipalities.
She pointed out that once Soberana 02 and Soberana Plus are in the province, the population and, specifically, the parents of children, adolescents and young people will be notified in time.
The also director of the Department of Science and Technology of the University of Medical Sciences of Holguin, said that for both groups there are inclusion and exclusion criteria. "To clarify that above all, voluntariness prevails, parents or guardians are not forced to apply the vaccine to their children; and from the consent of the adult, those of pediatric age from two to 18 years are included in this process, but will not be provided to those who have a confirmed to COVID-19; with acute infectious disease, which must wait to pass thru the process and patients with chronic non-communicable diseases decompensated, including oncological ones and that at that time are in specific oncological treatment."
Also, children with acute autoimmune rheumatic diseases in their first six months of debut or in relapse period; with nephrotic syndrome in regression in steroid treatment with doses higher than 30 milligrams daily and those allergic to Thiomersal will not be vaccinated and she also called to be especially careful with those diagnosed with myocarditis, since they require a previous evaluation with a cardiologist, so that the specialist can offer his assessment.
The specialist offered other indications: "If the child received an anti-diphtheria and anti-tetanus vaccine, must wait for 30 days for the Soberana 02, also if the child received a tetanus toxoid, must also wait for a month for the anti-COVID-19 vaccine and likewise if the patient was injected with Soberana 02, must not receive the reactivation of the tetanus toxoid, because the child already has this product in the body".
As reiterated by the parents of the Cuban anti-COVID-19 vaccines "they represent an advance in the country's immunization strategy and in the protection, in the shortest possible time, of our children and adolescents", precisely, at this moment, of the 1,894 positives admitted in Holguin, 294 are children, of them 32 under one year of age and accumulates to 9,273 since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020.
