Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, today thanked Pope Francis for his good wishes to Cubans wherever they are, reported the Cuban News Agency.
In a message posted on Twitter, the Cuban leader noted that they count on all those who love the Greater of the Antilles to get out of the difficult situation the country is going through with the current pandemic and the tightening of the economic, commercial and financial blockade by the United States.
"Thank you very much, Your Holiness, for your good wishes to Cubans wherever they are. We count on all those who love Cuba to get out of the difficult situation we are going through with the COVID19 pandemic and the tightening of the blockade," the head of state wrote.
The Pope published this morning on the same digital platform a message in which he expressed that he was once again presenting at the feet of the Virgen de la Caridad de Cobre (Patroness of Cuba) the life, dreams, hopes and pains of the Cuban people.
"Today I want to present once again at the feet of the Virgen de la Caridad de Cobre the life, dreams, hopes and pains of the Cuban people. Wherever there is a Cuban, may he or she experience the tenderness of Mary, and may she lead them all to Christ, the Savior," tweeted the bishop of Rome, supreme pontiff of the Catholic Church.
Diaz-Canel also expressed today, also on Twitter, his respect for the Cuban devotees of the Virgen de Regla and the Virgin of Virgen de la Caridad de Cobre, who are honored on September 7th and 8th, respectively.
On the occasion of the celebration on Wednesday of the Patroness of Cuba, the President expressed his gratitude and accompanied prayers for the health and prosperity of the nation.
"My respects to the Cuban devotees of the Virgein of Regla and the Patron Saint of Cuba, the Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre, who are honored on September 7 and 8, respectively. I thank and accompany prayers for the health and prosperity of the nation," Díaz-Canel expressed, and accompanied his tweet with the hashtag Ponle Corazón (Put your heart on Cuba).
