Given the increase of Covid-19 cases in Urbano Noris, the governmental attention is deepening, not only to verify the combat against the pandemic in this municipality of Holguin province, but also to give advice to the local authorities.
For this reason, a working visit was recently made by the Deputy Prime Minister of Cuba, Inés María Chapman Waugh, who accompanied by the Governor of the province, Julio César Estupiñán Rodríguez, and the highest authorities of the Party, Government and Public Health in that municipality, assessed the situation.
We are working to increase the admission capacity of health care facilities for all the positive cases, given that up to now we only have 168 shelters and we are studying 50 more, said Leonel Leyva Sarmiento, Mayor of the municipality of Urbano Noris.
In order to avoid agglomerations and to seek an equitable distribution of the merchandise that arrives to the municipality, we have decided that the sale of the products of the Caribes Stores (formerly TRD) and the Cimex corporation will be marketed in the communities, added Leyva Sarmiento.
The municipal mayor explained that "the Rafael Faustino Borrero Arévalo hospital only assists people with respiratory symptoms, for this reason, the on call body has been transferred to the Manuel "Piti" Fajardo polyclinic for those cases not related to COVID-19.
Another decision taken in Urbano Noris was to convert the children's day care center into a pediatric hospital so that in its temporary service it will assist 19 patients, but with some improvements it will reach up to 25.
The Urbano Noris municipality manufactures beds and coffins to strengthen these services, which are currently affected by the complex situation caused by the arrival of the Delta variant.
Addressing to the audience, Chapman Waugh ratified that the problems with medicines and medical oxygen are real, and that the humanism that we have learned from Fidel should not be lacking.
The Cuban Deputy Prime Minister added that "We must strengthen communication in the processes of admission and discharge in the health sector, an aspect on which we are working with a new computerization system, as well as the organization to carry it out, problems that today are becoming the main concerns of the people", cuoted Flabio Gutiérrez Delgado, reporter of the newspaper Ahora.
After first meeting with local authorities, Inés María Chapman Waugh visited the San Germán children's day6 care center, the Manuel "Piti" Fajardo polyclinic and the municipal hospital.
