The long-awaited Romerías de Mayo arrived to the streets and squares of the Cuban city of Holguin, with the enticement that the participation of the people would be massive, after the sustained control of covid-19.
The also called World Festival of Artistic Youth had its usual preamble this May 2nd with the traditional parade of horse-riden carriages and the pre-Romerías concert, this time with the exquisite voice of the talented Cuban singer Ivette Cepeda.
But this May 3rd came the great people' parade that marks the official inauguration of the artistic-cultural multi-event sponsored by the Hermanos Saíz Association in Holguín, and after a morning of bright sunshine, the traditional climb to the Loma de la Cruz hill and the exact moment that marks the beginning of the 29th edition of Romerías de Mayo convinced that "There is no today without yesterday" - its inspiring motto.
As usual, the people of Holguin accompanied the artists and delegates from all over Cuba to the Calixto García Park in front of the Provincial Museum La Periquera, where dissimilar artistic projects converged in a hymn to life, peace and solidarity, reported Claudia Patricia Domínguez, from the newspaper Ahora.
In that colorful river of people and artists of all manifestations, mask wearing through - were the charismatic character of the Cuban Charles Chaplin showed up; the Teatro Lírico Rodrigo Prats, very applauded by the interpretation of fragments of classic works of Cuban zarzuela, "Cecilia Valdés" and "María la O", as well as "Oda a la alegría", the song that identifies the Romerías de Mayo.
Also the students of the system of artistic education in Holguin, art instructors, amateur and professional artists, among them, the Provincial Band of Concerts, under the baton of Master Humberto Pino, and members of called Chinese Colony, of the Wushu School of Holguin, the contagious conga, among other local artists, of other parts of the country and the world.
And the Hacha de Holguín (Holguin Axe) taken to the top of the hil Loma de la Cruz in the arms of the pilgrims that every year turn Holguin into the capital of the young art.
The 29th edition of the Romerías de Mayo, dedicated to the young art and to the Saíz brothers 65 years after their cruel murder extends its homage to companies and institutions of Anniversary in this 2022.
Asso stands out the Provincial Band of Concert and its centenary, the 25 years of Ediciones La Luz - printing house of the AHS in Holguin, the three decades of Codanza dance company and the respective 60 years of the emblematic Lyrical Theater Rodrigo Prats and of the newspaper ¡ahora!
The Romerías de Mayo, the main event promoted by the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS) in Cuba, revives a rite born on May 3, 1790 when Father Antonio Alegría placed a wooden cross on top of Cerro Bayado, today Loma de la Cruz, in order to celebrate a Hispanic religious tradition, which with the passage of time became a pagan festival, and today, a massive encounter with art made by young people.
The inaugural parade was attended by Ernesto Santiesteban Velázquez, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and its First Secretary in the province of Holguín, Governor Julio César Estupiñán Rodríguez; Osmany Viñals García - First Secretary of the PCC in the municipality of Holguín - together with other authorities of the Party, the Government and the provincial direction of Culture.
But before all this town festivities of this Tuesday morning, the night of this Monday May 2nd was adorned by a gala with the inaugural concert of the twenty-ninth edition of the Romerías de Mayo in the Raúl Camayd hall of the Comandante Eddy Suñol Theater, when Maestro Joaquín Betancourt took the baton of the Holguín Symphony Orchestra to conduct the event, which under the artistic and general direction of Maestro Orestes Saavedra, the voices of the artist Zunilda Remigio, and the guests Nadie Mejías and Marien Hernández were raised.
Herencias Sonoras, was the name, very well chosen, for the concert that made a journey through the best of our music, with an excellent selection of anthological themes masterfully interpreted, according to the report of journalist Yudit Almeida Perez of Radio Angulo.
As usual, the pilgrims arrived at the stroke of midnight at the Bosque de los Héroes, in the Plaza de la Revolución Calixto García, where the founding fathers were remembered, the young people spoke of how throughout these 29 years the dreams of the time have come true and of their commitment to continue dreaming, creating and loving young art.
With the dawn came the concert of Ivette Cepeda, who is considered one of the most intense and expressive singers of today's Cuban music scene, who performed anthological songs, as well as those from her most recent album: Cepeda y Reflexión.
