This January 18th, Trial Chamber I of the Provincial People's Court of Holguin hosted the Opening of the Judicial Year in the territory. The ceremony was presided over by Rosa Maria Raez Abigantu, Member of the Provincial Bureau of the Party; Vice-Governor Yunia Perez Hernandez and Nilda Martinola Melandez, President of the judicial body.
"Due to its importance for legal security, legality, order and citizen tranquility, justice imparting is one of the actions that must be maintained, as far as possible, even in circumstances as complex as those imposed by the pandemic, of course, with the necessary and relevant adjustments and modifications in the patterns of action, without detriment to the rights and guarantees of individuals," said Martinola Melendez.
In the report on the main results of the judicial activity last year, she explained that adding all the instances and types of processes, the courts of justice in the province of Holguin had to process and resolve a total of 10 276 cases, of which 86.3 percent were processed and concluded. Similarly, at this stage, 88.0 percent of the final sentences were executed, and she also emphasized that work is being done to reduce the number of pending cases.
Vice-Governor Perez Hernandez referred to the importance of guaranteeing compliance with what has been established, of confronting illegalities and of maintaining public tranquility; in the midst of the complex economic situation the country is going through, of implementing the Task Order and of monetary and exchange rate unification; which requires the fight against criminal activities promoted by COVID-19, in which the Courts have a fundamental role.
