Since his arrival in Cuba last year, Maher El-Adawy has reached important achievements, including an agreement between the Chamber of Commerce of Cuba and its Egyptian counterpart, as well as the signing of an agreement to strengthen cultural ties.
Also, another Egyptian businessman dedicated to mining visited Holguín in addition to Havana in search of possible investments.
His Excellency Maher El-Adawy highlighted that Egypt was the first Arab and African country to establish ties with Cuba and that since the beginning of diplomatic relations after 1959 to date their main leaders have maintained friendship at the highest level.
Among the participants in the meeting was Faustino Fonseca Perea, Head of the Department of International Relations of the territorial Government, who spoke of the importance of strengthening the cultural ties between Egypt and the province of Holguin, it could be through the participation in the numerous events that are organized there, among them, the Romerías de Mayo, or the Ibero-American Culture Festival, possible date of the next diplomatic visit.
In this regard, Ivan Fernandez Rueda, an official of ICAP (Cuban Friendship Institute) noted that Egypt is among the 13 most friendly countries with Cuba.
There was even talk of working on the possible twinning of cities, in addition to working together in areas such as culture, tourism, mining, clean energy, transportation, academic exchange between universities, among other aspects.
Vice-governor Yunia Pérez Hernández remarked that the representatives of Padit Holguín, the Chamber of Commerce and ICAP had been invited with all intentions, since the doors of collaboration would be opened much better, that is why she highlighted how much can be done to grow together.
The also deputy to the Cuban Parliament, while thanking for the visit, gave guayaberas made by Holguin hands to Mr. Maher El-Adawy and his wife, who in turn gave to the Vice Governor souvenirs representative of the culture and history of their country, an original papyrus with the image of Nefertitis - one of their heroines - commented the Ambassador, as well as a stamp with the Egyptian flag, among other significant gifts.
After the protocol photos, a toast with malt made in Holguin was made, which delighted the distinguished visitors to the point that they promised to look for it on their return to Havana.
