In videoconference from the Provincial Government of Holguin the situation of the Food Security Plan was approached, with the presidency of the member of the Provincial Party Juan Domínguez Pérez, and Rigoberto Rivero Durán, who is in charge of the Agro-alimentary Programs for the Provincial Government.
At the beginning, Ramón Hernández Rojas, as the official in charge of the coordination of the Food Program, suggested sending the best experiences of each municipality to list them and present them in a national videoconference; he explained that it was necessary to know about the best producers, what they had done for such achievements and how far they had been able to go.
Domínguez Pérez, who recently arrived from a visit to the municipality of Cueto together with Rivero Durán, emphasized the need to generalize experiences.
He exemplified the sowing of sweet potatoes under the latest agrotechnical standards in search of efficiency, and that what was done there should be known by other producers so that in the end the whole province wins, he said.
In this respect, Rivero Durán emphasized the creation of working groups that will verify the implementation of the research on the production of food in the practice of each territory, and where there will be representation of Citma (Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment), the universities, among other advisers and decision-makers.
As usual, specialists contribute with experiences from their work place, so came a short conference where it was exemplified how much it is done in the Holguin Meat Enterprise to increase the production of food for the people.
Thanks to the recovery of machines with obsolete technology, not only has the productive production chain been expanded, but it has also contributed to the reduction of costly imports.
The specialist detailed how the food offers had increased and varied after the recovery by the innovators of the entity of a machine for the demoulding and another one for the formation of croquettes.
It was also pointed out that these experiences are being generalized throughout the province and the nation depending on the technological availability of each place.
The expert explained that it has also been possible to reduce imports with the use of domestic extenders and seasonings, and that since soybean provides a high dose of proteins, a program for the cultivation of this grain adapted to local conditions has been thought of.
Other products that, far from being discarded, can be used as hemoderivatives - both for the food industry as by the pharmaceutical industries - were also discussed, as well as rice or yucca powder for other food lines and feed for animal breeding.
PhD in Sciences from the University of Holguín Luis Aguilera was pleased with the research contributions aimed at increasing food production and quality, but asked for a better linkage with the Agronomy and Industrial Engineering degrees in order to close ranks in the practice of each company.
Rivero Durán took the floor again to ask the municipalities of Gibara, Rafael Freire and Báguano to explain their experiences in this regard, the latter highlighting the elaboration of sausages in the local gastronomy and for the so-called Villa Blanca de los Cangrejos its contribution in the chicken chain and the possible application of the experiences of the Holguin Meat Processing Plant at the food processing center in Gibara .
Then came the opportune participation of Nelson Pérez who, as head responsible for phytosanitary attention in the province of Holguín, emphasized the need to use the biological means that can be produced by hand or in the Centers of Reproduction of Entomophages and Entomopathogens (CREE).
Regarding the former, the usefulness of taking advantage of the tabaquina that comes out of the Cigarrete Factory and the Cigar Factories of Holguin, through the Agricultural Supplies Company, for the handmade production of pest control agents was highlighted; as well as the use of the leaves of the neem tree.
In the videoconference it was known about the incomplete staff of phytosanitary specialists in some units, that is why the information of the opening of this career at the University of Holguin, to which students or personnel sent by the interested entity can aspire; besides, of the feasibility of being able to hire students prepared in these specialties.
