Since the actions for the transformation of El Paraíso community began, the changes are already palpable in only 21 days, affirmed Ernesto Santiesteban Velázquez, the first secretary of the Party in Holguín province, during the tour he has been making as part of the system of attention to the neighborhoods.
Accompanied by the provincial governor Julio César Estupiñán Rodríguez, and other leaders of the Party and the Government in Holguín province and municipality, Santiesteban Velázquez exchanged with the President of the Alcides Pino People' s Council, the delegate of the 14th circumscription, where El Paraíso is located, and other community leaders.
It is true that Alcides Pino Bermudez elementary school is changing its look, since the classrooms have been enlarged and are being restored together with the library.
The work is speeding up so that next November its 84 students and 24 workers will resume classes, says with just pride the school principal Yoenia Ortiz Expósito.
Precisely in front of the school that is being renovated, under the shade of leafy trees, the visitors appreciated the massive community activity, prepared by the talent of the community and three community projects under the auspices of the Provincial Directorate of Culture and the Municipal House of Culture.
In a morning of burning sun, the neighbors and especially the children, whom the First Secretary of the Party described as the protagonists of the day, enjoyed singing, dancing, literature - especially poetry - and a contest where the best gift, besides the books as a prize for the answers given, was the uplifting moment reflected in the joy lived among all, and where they dreamed of a better El Paraíso that its inhabitants want.
Santiesteban Velázquez emphasized that culture can do a lot to keep growing spiritually.
For that reason he emphasized the call to enlarge the work because to make culture is to make revolution, so that the community together with all the factors are directed by this better way that is being created, in this way El Paraíso changes, and will continue doing it because it was approved in the Eighth Congress of the Party, said the also member of the Central Committee of the Party.
But he reminded that the actions must have their driving force in the community itself, so that the work is loved and protected, such as the school, the family doctor's office, the grocery store, the children's playground, the drinking water point, the vegetable garden and all the other works that are built or rebuilt, and with what has been seen so far El Paraíso becomes a reference in what we want to do in the neighborhoods, assured the First Secretary of the Party.
El Paraíso, a neighborhood typified with certain social problems, is pleased with the ongoing construction actions, but also with the legalization of the houses, a situation that worried them and for which a solution is already being sought, and along with it, other benefits in the services.
Something that the First Secretary of the Party emphasized was about the works and projects that have to grow from within, such as the orchard, where the agronomist Iscánder Terrero Cutiño deserves more support from the community so that production grows there, because in the end this will be for their own benefit, and that will serve as employment and economic benefit.
There it has to be said that unity is strength, because among all together the the journey along the road becomes smoother, take as an example Sonia Martinez Acosta, who belongs to the Julio Diaz cooperative and is in charge of cooking food for the builders who work tirelessly in the repair of the school.
Or retired Manuel Martínez Castillo who is waiting for the legalization of his small house in need of improvement, but who maintains a variety of crops in his small yard, and whenever his health allows him to, he goes to the garden to give Iscánder a hand.
Here we are looking for the integration of everyone, said the delegate of the district, Orlis Pacheco, and gave as an example a Jehovah's Witness who joins the work of the community, to make valid Jose Marti's sentence "with everyone and for the good of all".
El Paraíso community, located on Camino Militar, north of the Cuban city of Holguín, should not be said to be the idyllic image of certain texts.
But as long as there are doers like the cultural promoter Rafaela Driggs Fuentes, the dancing girl Mélany Mauren Rojas Fuentes, Miguel David Games Font - taciturn boy who speaks through the crafts.
Or its many settlers who are already making their way, as the Spanish poet Miguel Hernandez said, because they have responded to the call of their Revolution, and when the Homeland summons, you see answers like those people who planted themselves there and continue dreaming of their better home, who decided to love El Paraiso.
