Cuba reported this February the first 906 new cases of COVID-19, two deaths and 993 medical leaves, according to an information given at a press conference by Dr. Francisco Durán García, national director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health (Minsap).

For COVID-19, 18,403 samples were studied, resulting 906 positive ones. Cuba has so far acumulates one million 904 thousand 926 samples taken and 27 thousand 592 positive ones (1.45 %).

The 18,403 samples were taken at molecular biology laboratories. According to Dr. Francisco Durán, to date there are 20 laboratories throughout the country where samples are processed. "This allows the processing to take place in the same territory where the sample is taken, which will provide a greater speed in obtaining the results," he said.

Of the 906 confirmed cases, 859 ones (94.8%) are contacts of confirmed cases, 23 thousand 11 ones of the confirmed cases that are contacts of other positives (83.3%)

- 16 cases (1.7%) with sources of infection abroad, accumulating four thousand 136 ones (14.9%)

- 26 linked to international travelers (2.8%), accumulating seven thousand 105 ones (51.4%).

- 468 ones are women (51.6%), total 13,385 and 438 (48.4%) are men (total 14,207).

- Of the 906 positive cases, 47.9% were asymptomatic at the time of diagnosis. Total 15 thousand 408 (56.1%)

- By age group: under 20 years, 125 confirmed cases and 111 of these patients in the pediatric age group. In the 20-39 age group, 298, 40-59 years 346 and over 60 years, 137 cases.

- 890 are autochthonous transmission and 16 imported cases.
