Plaza Martiana GeoCuba1 f JCDTAlthough Cubans carry Martí in their hearts, they always like to pay a well-deserved tribute to him in the most diverse ways, whether it is a photo that proudly hangs on the wall, a bust - as in Cuban schools - or a square that, regardless its size, shows how much they love Cuba's National Hero.

This is how the workers of the Insurance Base of the GeoCuba Oriente Norte business group worked hard together with Alberto Ramirez, an artist-creator from the AlArte Services Company, to conceive a beautiful and symbolic square that not only honors the Maestro, but in short, details the life of the son of Doña Leonor and Don Mariano.

Because a wall of the entity became the facade of the birthplace of Pepe, family nickname of José Julián Martí Pérez.
And on both sides of the aforementioned bust, two billboards recalling defining moments in the life of the Apostle of Cuban Independence.

Plaza Martiana Geocuba 3 f JCDTOn the left, in a full body photo when he was still a child, that remembers the torture he lived during the called Political Prison in the quarries of San Lazaro for never renouncing to freedom of the Homeland.

And the other one, on the right, when mounted on his horse Baconao was killed in action, in unequal conditions, in Dos Rios that May 19, 1895 during the Necessary War that he himself had organized.

When talking to workers there, one can see everybodys love for their collective creation and for the Man of the Golden Age, where his literary work is also referred to.

The star, the one that "illuminates and kills" as in his poem "Yugo y estrella" is repeated in this sculptural composition, once on the top between the windows of the facade, and that at night is illuminated with LED lights.

And the other on the bust, which resembles the place where his venerated mortal remains were laid to rest in the Mausoleum that was raised in his memory in the sacred cemetery of Santa Ifigenia, in Santiago de Cuba.

It was impossible to grow a royal palm in the place, but a garden palm was the solution.

And of course, to remember his beloved poem dedicated to sincere friendship, to love, white roses planted around and carefully cared for by a man with rough hands but with the heart of a sincere friend.

This square since October 20, 2020 serves as a perennial homage to José Julián Martí Pérez, that is why every January 28, -his birthday-, or the day of his physical departure -May 19-, are two moments of obligatory stop, although not the only ones.

Thus, next October 20, -Day of Cuban Culture and date of its inauguration-, will be another reason to highlight the figure of the Most Universal of Cubans, together with so many other significant events of the Homeland's history.
